Greetings from the Elementary School Principal
My name is Ellen Saxby and I am the new Williamson Elementary School Principal. I am very excited to be writing to you about my new role in the district. I look forward to the opportunity where I can meet each of you and your child in person, but until then please let me share a little about myself.
I grew up in Victor, a small town not unlike Williamson (although Victor has grown by leaps and bounds since I last lived there!) as one of five children, and the daughter of a teacher. My college path took me to the State University of New York at Geneseo where I earned a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education. I moved on from college to my first teaching job, which was at a Catholic elementary school in Greece, NY. I began my Master’s in Reading Education at Nazareth College while teaching there, completing this degree while in my first year here in Williamson.
I vividly remember interviewing here in Williamson some twenty four years ago, when the elementary building housed grades K-2. It was the last day of school and there was great fanfare out in the bus circle, as students left for the summer. Teachers and staff waved good-bye with joy and sadness all mixed together. As I sat in the main office, waiting for my interview to begin, I thought to myself…I want to be in that bus circle! And I was for sixteen wonderful years. I taught a variety of classroom settings in those sixteen years, and hold each of them close to my heart. I began as a 1st grade teacher and had the great joy of teaching kids to read. From there I moved onto 3rd grade with new learning experiences to enjoy. My final two years in the elementary were spent as an Enrichment teacher and the Enrichment Coordinator for the district. In this capacity I had the great fortune of working with many students. During this time I pursued my Certification of Administration at the University of Rochester. Then my path changed again and I was off to the middle school.
I spent six years in the middle school as the Assistant Principal, as well as the Director of Technology. During these six years I helped to build on the skills that the students developed in the elementary school. In my final year at the middle school I helped to develop and facilitate the RtI (Response to Intervention) team, which insures that all students have the supports and services they need in order to be successful in school. I then moved to the high school, with duties as the RtI facilitator in both the middle and high schools. I also acted as the Assistant Principal in the high school, supporting students and teachers in this phase of their education.
And now I have come full circle…back to the elementary School, where I began my career in Williamson. I have the great privilege of taking on the role of the Elementary School Principal, with opportunities to work with a wonderful staff and amazing students. I look forward to the many exciting events that will take place in the elementary building this year, with hopes that you can join us as we travel this journey together. I especially look forward to being in the bus circle…not just on the last day of school, but every day!
