Mr. Donahue's Math Class
Welcome to Mr. Donahue's 6th Grade Math Class
Sixth grade mathematics is about (1) connecting ratio and rate to whole number multiplication and division, and using concepts of ratio and rate to solve problems; (2) completing the understanding of multiplication and division of fractions, and extending the notion of number to the system of rational numbers, which includes negative numbers; (3) writing, interpreting, and using expressions and equations; (4) developing an understanding of statistical thinking; and (5) extending an understanding of geometry .
There are 11 Units based on the Modules given to us by NY State.
Unit 1- Algebraic Expressions
Unit 2- Solving Equations
Unit 3- Computation with Multi Digit Numbers
Unit 4- Multiplying and Dividing Fractions
Unit 5- Area of 2-D Shapes
Unit 6- Ratios and Unit Rates

Unit 8- Integers and the Coordinate Plane
Unit 9- Functions and Inequalities
Unit 10- 3-D Shapes
Unit 11- Statistics
- All students must have a math binder, a highlighter, a few colored pencils, extra lined paper, a ruler and a good supply of regular pencils. It is reccomended that each child has a TI-30XIIS calculator. There will be homework most nights so that your child has the opportunity to practice the skills being taught. Each student is responsible for writing the homework in his or her SAB and I post it on this site.
- We use three websites on a regular basis: i-Ready, Xtramath (for practicing math facts), and IXL. IXL is particularly helpful with practicing the current skills being taught. We use these sites in Math Extension Class, but our time is limited. Your child can access any of these sites from home (or the public library). Please encourage your child to go to IXL and practice.
- Please email firstname.lastname@example.org with any concerns.
